CUSTER, William “Bill” Franklin, 83, of Wheeling, W.Va., passed away on May 18, 2011 in the Ohio Valley Medical Center, Wheeling.
Mr. Custer was born on July 21, 1927 in Wheeling, W.Va., the son of the late Walter and Mary Hoyt Custer.
He was a former employee of the former Wheeling Transfer and Gast Bakery, a member of the Pleasant Hill Methodist Church, United Methodist Men’s Foundation and a U.S Army veteran of World War II.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by a sister, Grace Nething and a brother, Robert Custer.
Married on June 30, 1952, Bill is survived by his wife of 58 years, Joan Cowan Custer, two sons, Wayne Custer and his wife, Rita of Wheeling, Mark Custer and his wife Kim also of Wheeling, one daughter, Rhonda Martin and her husband, William of Pleasant Valley, four grandchildren, Jenifer Strope and her husband Ben of Cameron, Keely Martin of Huntington, W.Va., Mark Custer Jr, of Wheeling, and Marisa Custer of Wheeling. Two great-grandchildren, Kaylee and Nicholas Strope, several nieces and nephews including, Danielle and Emily Archey.
Friends will be received on Friday, May 20, 2011 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m at Kepner Funeral Home, 36th and Jacob Street, South Wheeling, where services will be held on Saturday, May 21, 2011 at 10:30 a.m, with the Rev. John G. Lepp officiating. Interment in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
