Marilyn Kender Grindley

GRINDLEY, Marilyn Kender, 82, died at home surrounded by her family on October 12, 2012 after several months of declining health.

Marilyn was born October 29, 1929 in Wheeling, WV. She graduated from Triadelphia High School in Wheeling and Butler University in Indianapolis, IN. She was an active member and alum of Pi Beta Phi sorority.

She went on to serve as an elementary school teacher in Chicago where she met and fell in love with Robert Grindley. They returned to her hometown, Wheeling, where they have lived for the past 45 years.

Marilyn was dedicated to preserving all forms of animal life and the environment. In 2008, Marilyn was instrumental in bringing virtual dissection to Wheeling Park High School and formulating new laws in WV, regarding the use of steel jaw traps. Marilyn was active in the community.

Marilyn served in various capacities with: King’s Daughters, Panhellenic Council, Pi Beta Phi Alumna, Ohio County SPCA, and Ohio Valley Peace (Peace Education & Community Effort).

Marilyn died just two days after her loving husband of 54 years, Robert.

She is survived by her son, John Kender Grindley of Wheeling; her daughter, Anne Grindley Stiltner, of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; four grandchildren; and two great – grandchildren.

A Memorial Service will be scheduled at a future date for friends and family.
