EBERHARD, Dr. Sally H., 73, of Wheeling died Monday, October 8, 2012, at Valley Hospice’s Liza’s Place.
Sally was born in Wheeling on October 18, 1938 to Howard H. (Pete) and Madelyn Dauber Hood.
She graduated from Warwood High School and received an RN from Ohio Valley General Hospital (OVGH), a BS-Nursing from West Liberty State College, an MS-Nursing from West Virginia University, and a PhD-Nursing from Widener University, Chester, Pa. Sally was a 50 year member of the OVGH Alumni Association.
Sally worked as an ob/gyn nurse at OVGH for 20 years before becoming a nursing instructor. She retired as an Associate Professor Emeritus of Nursing from West Liberty State College in 2003. Sally was also a founding member of the Board and volunteer at Wheeling Health Right, the professional accomplishment of which she was most proud. She worked on the Ohio County Tobacco Prevention Coalition and was an officer of various professional nursing organizations.
She was a life-long member of the Warwood United Methodist Church and served in the United Methodist Women, the church choir, Secretary of the Council of Ministries, West Virginia Methodist Annual Conference liaison. She also served on the board of Protestant Campus Ministry at West Liberty State College.
Sally had a beautiful alto voice and sang with the Ohio Valley Chorale, Wheeling Symphony Choir and the Warwood United Methodist Church choir.
Sally was preceeded in death by her brother, James Alan Hood, her parents, and her husband, Richard B. Eberhard.
Sally is survived by a daughter, Laura (Rob) Gergen of Ambler, Pa and a son, James Richard (Tracy) of Wheeling. She leaves her proudest legacy in her five grandchildren, Brit, Trevor and Anneliese Gergen and Cameron and Logan Eberhard. She is also survived by several cousins. Friends will be received on Friday, October 12, 2012 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Kepner Funeral Home, Burke Chapel, 2101 Warwood Avenue, Wheeling. Services will be held on Saturday October 13, 2012 at 10 a.m. at the Warwood United Methodist Church, 1438 Warwood Ave, with the Reverend Jodi Carroll officiating.
Interment in Greenwood Cemetery, Wheeling.
