Cheryl Flaherty

FLAHERTY, Cheryl Lynn Grooms, an angel born on this Earth, June 9, 1948, was called home by the Lord on November 3, 2012.

Waiting her arrival in Heaven were her brother, William Grooms, her grandmother, Edith Lynn Horn, and her uncles, Robert Grooms, Jim and Henry Horn, and Jim Sperlazza.

The family would like those who knew and loved her to know that she died peacefully in her sleep, watched over by her beloved pets, Jean-Francois, Andre, Spunky Pierre and Annie.

Cheryl was a retired first and second grade teacher at the former Bethany Elementary School for 32 years. She cried when she had to retire early because of illness. She loved children, animals, her family and friends, and most of all, she loved the Lord. In her earlier years, she was a member of West Liberty Christian Church, and in her last years, she attended the Christian Assembly in Follansbee, WV.

Surviving are her loving and devoted husband of 41 years, Thomas Flaherty of Bethany, WV, a wonderful daughter, Ashley Flaherty, who was the center of her life, her courageous and amazing parents, William and Vivian Grooms of Bethany, WV, and a caring sister, Joyce McGeehan, also of Bethany, WV. She is also survived by three brothers and sisters-in-law, 13 nephews and nieces, three aunts and uncles and eight cousins.

Cheryl spent her earthly life caring for and giving to others. The greatest tribute that one could pay to her is to make a monetary donation in her name to the following organizations:

The Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration, Radnor Station Building 2, Suite 320, 290 King of Prussia Road, Radnor, PA 19087, Alzheimer’s Foundation of America, 322 Eighth Ave, 7th Floor, New York, NY 10001 (1-866-232-8484), the Brooke County Animal Shelter for spaying and neutering of the shelter animals or to any Brooke County PTAs for clothing and care of children.

Private family services will be held with Reverend Dennis Arnold of West Libtery Christian Church and Reverend Joseph Cuomo of the Follansbee Christian Assembly, officiating.

Arrangements are under the direction and care of the Chambers Funeral Home, 1030 Main Street, Wellsburg, WV 26070.
