McGILTON, Laverne “Tex,” 86, of Stewartsville, OH, passed away Saturday, November 3, 2012.
He was born December 10, 1925, in Stewartsville, a son of the late Thurman and Mildred Masters McGilton.
Tex was a retired blacksmith for Franklin Mine No. 25 at New Athens, a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of WWII, and a Methodist by faith.
He loved horses and working with his tractor.
Surviving are his wife, Emily Palmer McGilton; four children, Debrah (Kerry) Duke of Texas, Keith (Lori) McGilton of Alabama, Kevin (Misty) McGilton of Stewartsville, and Kurt (Rhonda) McGilton of Belmont; a brother, Thurman “Termite” McGilton of Belmont; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at Toothman Funeral Home in St. Clairsville on Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. where services will be held on Wednesday at noon.
Burial follows in Holly Memorial Gardens, Pleasant Grove.
Belmont County Council of American Legions will provide full military honors at 11:45 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Clarksburg United Methodist Church.
