A golden heart stopped beating on November 29, 2012, as Darlene Starkey passed away peacefully at the Cleveland Clinic.
She was born October 16, 1942 in Kodol, WV, the daughter of the late Lawrence and Sylvia McNeely Williams.
She was a member of New Martinsville United Methodist Church and of TOPS Club of New Martinsville.
Darlene loved life and was the happiest when surrounded by her family and friends. She touched many lives by being a “nanny” to many children in the surrounding New Martinsville area. She touched the lives of countless children and saw many of those children grow up to be amazing members of society, and have children of their own.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jack Starkey, whom she married on December 4, 1958; a granddaughter, Renae Starkey; and a special friend, Mandy Ice.
Survivors include two daughters, Pam (Dean) Clark of Niles, OH, and Donna (Lisa) Starkey of New Martinsville; two sons, Jeff Starkey of New Martinsville and Eric (Jen) Starkey of Westminster, CO; a brother, Herb McNeely of Virginia; three sisters, Sue (Bobby) Sampson of Fairmont, Arlene Ukeiley of Las Vegas, and Jeanette McNeely of Fairmont; seven grandchildren, Greg (Tiffanie) Starkey, Casey (Tasha) Starkey, J.P. (Amanda) Starkey, Jackie, Troy, Kara and Maddie Starkey; and three great-grandchildren, Ethan, Kylie, and Kolson.
Family will receive friends on Monday from 5-9 p.m. and on Tuesday from noon until the time of the funeral service at 1 p.m. at Grisell Funeral Home & Crematory, 751 Third Street, New Martinsville with Rev. Melissa Shortridge officiating.
Interment in Paden Memorial Gardens, New Martinsville, WV.
In lieu of flowers the family has asked donations to be made to WesBanco/ Darlene Starkey Memorial Fund, where donations will be divided between Roads to Recovery and The Amanda Ice Memorial Scholarship Fund.
