MITCHELL, John A. “Jack,” 88, of Wellsburg, formerly of Windsor Heights, passed away on Saturday, January 19, 2013, at Ann’s Country Retreat in Wellsburg.
He was born December 16, 1924, to the late Andrew and Edith Davidson Mitchell in Windsor Heights, WV.
He was retired from the Windsor Coal Co. with 30 years of service and also was a federal mine inspector. He was a member of the Wellsburg Christian Church where he was also an elder. He was also a member of the Wellsburg Masonic Lodge #2 AF & AM.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Gwendolyn Mae Braun Mitchell, in 2006; an infant son; another son, John E. Mitchell, in 2011; one brother, Andrew Mitchell; one sister Hannah Young; and a son-in-law, William “Bud” Wellings.
He is survived by two sons, Mark W. Mitchell and his wife Susan of Clearwater, FL, and Ronald Mitchell and his companion Anna of Wellsburg; one daughter, Linda Wellings of Buckhannon, WV; one sister, Isabella Goff of Windsor Heights; a daughter-in-law, Melanie Mitchell of Wellsburg; seven grandchildren: Deborah Sweda, Christy Benson, John Robert Mitchell, Rachel Mitchell, Daniel Mitchell, Nicole Johnston, and Vanessa Mitchell; and five great-grandchildren: Lily Bond, Kiersten Benson, Audrey Mitchell, Haliey Johnston and Ava Johnston.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 22, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Reasner Funeral Home, 1515 Charles St., Wellsburg, where services will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. with Pastor Aaron Miller officiating. Interment will follow at Franklin Cemetery with full Masonic graveside rites by the Wellsburg Masonic Lodge #2 AF & AM.
