MILLER, Robert Alvin Sr., 90, of Wheeling, WV, died on his 90th birthday at his residence on Tuesday, January 15, 2013. Bob was born in Wheeling, son of the late Robert Joseph and Rose Dick Miller.
In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Beverly Marshall Miller. Bob was a good man who devoted his life to his wife, children and family.
Bob graduated from Triadelphia HS, and Pittsburgh Institute of Aeronautics. He then taught aeronautics in New York City up until the time he was drafted for World War II. He was a proud WWII veteran who served in Italy in the U.S. Army Air Corps as a B-17 mechanic, then military police, and finally as an investigator. Upon returning to civilian life after WWII, he became a stone and brick mason who designed and built many fine homes, churches, schools, and commercial structures within the greater Wheeling area. Bob was a founder and active member of the Big Wheeling Creek Watershed Commission from the mid-1960s through the present.
Bob is survived by his children: a son, Robert A. Miller Jr.; a daughter, Rebecca A. Merritt and her husband Douglas, all of Wheeling; a grandson, Mark D. Merritt and his wife, Tara; a great-grandson, Liam Merritt, all of State College, PA; several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at Kepner Funeral Home, 166 Kruger St., Elm Grove (304-242-2311), from 1-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday, January 17, 2013. A private burial service, officiated by Reverend Joel Richter, will be held at the convenience of Bob’s family.
