Theresa Savage
SAVAGE, Theresa Marie (Kammer), 81, of Wheeling, W.Va., died at 3:45 a.m. on Sunday, January 20, 2013, at Liza’s Place surrounded by her loved ones.
She was born on January 10, 1932, in Wheeling, a daughter of the late Joseph and Manetta (Fralinger) Kammer.
She was a 1950 graduate of St. Joseph Academy in Wheeling, then an operator with the C&P Telephone Company before becoming a full-time mom and homemaker. Theresa was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Wheeling, a member of the Altar Society at Seven Dolors Catholic Church in Triadelphia, W.Va., a long-time volunteer at Catholic Charities 18th Street Neighborhood Center in Wheeling, a member of the funeral choir at St. Vincent’s, and a Meals on Wheels volunteer.
Theresa will always be remembered as an unselfish person. Aside from all of her volunteering, she devoted her life to her husband, children and grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Rosemary Kelly.
Surviving are her husband of 58 years, C. “Jack” Savage; four daughters: Marla Breitinger of Canonsburg, Pa., Theresa Tesoriero and her husband Michael of Palm City, Fla., Charlene Gillot and her husband David of Wheeling, Jonette Bauer and her husband Greg of Wheeling; a son, Charles J. Savage and his wife Cathy of Wheeling; two brothers, Joseph Kammer and his wife Judy of Edgewater Fla., and Charles Kammer of Wheeling; two sisters, Manetta Freismuth of Bunell, Fla., and Marcella Link of St. Clairsville, Ohio; 10 grandchildren: Jeff Breitinger and his wife Jennifer of Loxahatchee, Fla., Michael Breitinger and wife Amanda of Bethany, W.Va., Dr. Jeremy Breitinger of Frederick, Md., Jason Moore and wife Jennifer of Stuart, Fla., Dr. Ryan Wakim of Morgantown, W.Va., Jenna Wakim of Fairmont, W.Va., Casey Savage of Weymouth, Mass., Chas Savage of Wheeling, Lauren Bauer of Raleigh, N.C., and Kyle Bauer of Wheeling; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the caregivers and staff at Liza’s Place and her personal caregivers Cindy Kent and Mary Clark. Theresa was very blessed to have had these wonderful and caring people in her life.
Friends will be received on Tuesday, January 22, 2013, from 2-4 and 5-8 p.m. at the Altmeyer Funeral Home, 154 Kruger St., Elm Grove, where a vigil service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, January 23, 2013 at 10 a.m. at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Wheeling, with the Rev. James LaCrosse, S.M. as celebrant, the Rev. John P. Mulcahy, St. Vincent de Paul Parish priest, as concelebrant, and the Rev. William Cili as concelebrant. Interment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Wheeling.
