WALLACE, Virginia L. Bucklew, 94, of Bellaire, OH, formerly of Shadyside, OH, and Kingwood, WV, passed away Wednesday, January 9, 2013 at Country Club Retirement Center.
She was born September 5, 1918, in Terra Alta, WV, a daughter of the late A. Dayton and Edith (Whitehair) Bucklew.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert K. Wallace; brothers, Donald Bucklew, and Clifford K. Bucklew; brothers-in-law, Lynn Welch, Harvey Shaffer, Duane, Richard and Raymond Wallace; and nephew, Bill Howard Wallace.
Virginia was a member of the Lincoln Avenue United Methodist Church, Shadyside, Ohio, and the Hillview Garden Club of Shadyside. She was a graduate of Fairmont State Teachers’ College and West Virginia University. She taught for 22 years with the Preston County West Virginia Board of Education, and for another 22 years with the Belmont County Ohio Board of Education. She began her teaching career in a one-room school house in Preston County, WV.
She is survived by two sisters, Jean Shaffer and Eva Welch; sisters-in-law, Dolores Bucklew, and Rose Wallace; nieces Wilma (Chuck) Yannerella, Carol (Paul) Matlin, Linda (Jan) Heller, Peggy (Earl) Smith, Debbie (Lucky) Streeval, Robyn (Russ) Williams, Debra Wallace, and Bobbie Ann (Rob) Wallace Barrett; nephews, George (Deborah) Welch, Steve Welch, Larry Bucklew, Chad (Andrea) Bucklew, Ken Wallace, Duane (Theresa) Wallace; 34 great-nieces and nephews; and several great-great-nieces and nephews.
Family and friends may call at the Bauknecht-Altmeyer Funeral Home, 3900 Central Ave., Shadyside, Ohio from 4-8 p.m. Friday, January 11 and at Lincoln Avenue United Methodist Church from noon until the 2 p.m. funeral hour on Saturday, January 12. The Reverend Larry Helms will officiate. Interment in Belmont County Memorial Park Cemetery, St. Clairsville, Ohio.
