DEEGAN, Lawrence Paul, 91, of Wheeling, WV, died Thursday, January 31, 2013 in Liza’s Place, Wheeling.
He was born December 1, 1921 in Benwood, WV, the son of the late Thomas and Mary Walsh Deegan.
Larry was veteran of U.S. Army, having served in the South Pacific during WWII. He played for the Wheeling Blue Professional Basketball team, and was a long-time member to the Wheeling YMCA. He worked as a watch maker for William Carpenter at Carpenter’s Jewelers. in 1974, he became the owner, until the store closed in 2003.
In addition to his preceded in death by a son, Denny, a brother Bud; two sisters, Mary Genevieve and Rita Freeland.
Surviving are his wife of 67 Years, Gloria Meyer Deegan; children , Maureen Dolan (Bill) and Deanna Wagner (Dennis) and Kevin Deegan (Julie); a daughter-in-law, Mollie Greiner Deegan; eight, grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received on Sunday, February 3, 2013 from 12 – 3 p.m. at the Kepner Funeral Home, Burke Chapel, 2101 Warwood Ave, Wheeling (304-277-2722).
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, February 4, 2013 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, at 10: 30 a.m. with Monsignor Eugene S. Ostrowski as celebrant. Interment in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Wheeling.
Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
