PALMER, Robert J. Sr., 81. of Wheeling, WV, died Saturday, February 23, 2013 in Liza’s Place.
He was born November 11, 1931 in Wheeling, one of 11 children of the late William B. Palmer Sr. and Mary Theresa Fisher Palmer.
He was a retired Lieutenant with the Wheeling Fire Department, former employee of Hazel Atlas and Warwood Tool, a member of St. Michael Catholic Church, Wheeling, Knights of Columbus, Carroll Council #504, The International Association of Professional Fire- Fighters Local No.12, and an Army veteran of the Korean War.
Uncle Bob was an avid Notre Dame fan, scored hole-in-ones at both Wheeling Park and Crispen golf courses and was a former coach at the St. John’s Home for Boys.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by seven brothers, Charles W., Edward G., Louis J., Lawrence, William B., Jr, Thomas F. and James P. Palmer Sr.; three sisters, Clara Mae McKee, Mary Margaret Cox, and Nancy Elisabeth Jorden.
Surviving are his loving wife of 57 years, Angela R. Fragale Palmer; two children, Robert J. Palmer Jr. and his wife Karen of Wheeling; Angela Palmer Johnson and her husband Tom of Pickerington, OH; four grandchildren, Bobby Palmer III, Claudia Palmer, Sophia Johnson and Jordis Johnson, several nieces and nephews.
Friends received 2-4 and 5-8 p.m. Monday at the Altmeyer Funeral Home, 154 Kruger Street, Wheeling, where Vigil services will be held at 7:30 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, January 26, 2013 at St. Michael Catholic Church, Wheeling.
Interment with Military honors and Wheeling Fire Dept. honors in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Wheeling.
