Denzel Skidmore

SKIDMORE, Denzil M., 87, of Wheeling, WV died Wednesday, March 6, 2013 at Valley Haven Geriatric Center.

He was born January 11, 1926 in Centralia, WV., the son of the late Walter B. and Ioma Green Skidmore.

He was a retired coal miner and mechanic at Valley Camp Coal Company #1, and a Navy WW II veteran. He was a member of the Cave Club, WV Snakes Club, and Warwood Vets.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Velma Skidmore; a brother, Bud Skidmore; and a sister, Marie Freeman.

Surviving are his wife, Kathryn Skidmore; sons, Denzil Skidmore (Margaret), and Harry Galloway (Kelly); daughters, Janice Lough (Franklin), and Jamie Galloway; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; brothers, Carlyon Skidmore (Shirley), and Hurley Skidmore (Mary); sisters, Geraldine Wright, Marguerite Raines, Wanda Nida, and Karen Pappas (Jim).

Friends will be received Friday, March 8, 2013 from 10 a.m. until time of service at noon at the Kepner Funeral Home, Burke Chapel, 2101 Warwood Avenue, Wheeling, WV 26003 (304-277-2722) with Rev. Roger Murfin officiating.

Interment with military honors will be held Saturday, March 9, 2013 at 1 p.m. at Bug Ridge Cemetery, Sutton, WV.
