Edward Schumacher

SCHUMACHER, Edward A. “Ed,” age 60, of New Philadelphia passed peacefully, with his loving family around him, Wednesday, March 20, 2013, in Community Hospice House, after a hard-fought battle with colon cancer.

Born August 31, 1952, at Wheeling, WV, he was a son of the late Charles P. Schumacher and Marie Conaway Schumacher Dobranetski of New Philadelphia.

Ed graduated from Warren Consolidated High School at Rayland, and earned his bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Communications from Ohio University. He was the president and general manager of WTUZ-FM in New Philadelphia.

Besides his mother, Ed is survived by his fiancee, Joanne Obermiller; his “step-sons,” Jason Slabaugh of Jacksonville Beach, FL, and Jarrod Slabaugh of New Philadelphia; his brother, Keith (Carolyn) Schumacher of Acworth, GA; his nieces, Gracie (Ed’s goddaughter) and Anna Marie Schumacher.

In addition to his father, Ed was preceded in death by his step-father, Edward Dobranetski.

Fr. Jeff Coning will celebrate Ed’s funeral Mass Monday, March 25, at 10:30 a.m., in Sacred Heart Church, 139 Third St. NE, New Philadelphia. Following the Mass, there will be a luncheon in the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center on the Boulevard at Dover.
