James Carr

CARR, SFC James Edward, age 81, passed away Monday, February 25, 2013, in the William F. Green State Veteran’s Home, Bay Minette, AL.

He was born July 29, 1931, in Loudenville, WV, the son of the late Edwin and Icie Teagarden Carr.

He was retired from the U.S. Army; having served in the Korean War, where he received a Bronze Star Medal; and he also served two tours in Vietnam.

After retiring from the military, he instructed ROTC in Greensboro, FL; was a member of the VFW; and enjoyed playing golf, yodeling; and gardening.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Wesley Carr; three sisters, Mary Abromowitz, Leona Carr, and Iona Blake; and a great-grandson, Matthew Bailey.

Survivors include his wife, Hilda Carr of Dothan, AL; a daughter, Sheila (James) Lemaire of St. Martinville, LA; a son, Tony (Vanessa) Holmes of Enterprise, AL; a sister, Relda Wright of Cameron, WV; six grandchildren, Sonya Nichols, Jason Holmes, Staci Lamb, Jayla, Jeremiah, and Josh Foster; three great -grandchildren, Jordyn and Bradley Hallford, and Charity Bailey; a great-great-grandson, Cameron Hallford; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service will be held Sunday, March 24, 2013, at 1 p.m. at Grisell Funeral Home & Crematory, 400 Jefferson Avenue, Moundsville with Pastor Paul Smith officiating and the Moundsville Honor Guard conducting Military Services.

Inurnment in Highland Cemetery, Cameron.
