FREY, Joseph F., Sr., “Captain,” passed away April 22, 2013 at 1:15 p.m. at Reynolds Memorial Hospital in Glen Dale, WV.
He was born July 15, 1928, in Wheeling, WV, son of the late John Frederick Frey and Cora Belle Elliott Frey.
Joseph was retired from West Virginia Dept. of Corrections, working at the West Virginia Penitentiary; a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the South Pacific and Japan; and a lifetime member of Mound Post 437 VFW in Moundsville.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma Caldwell Frey; sisters, Rose Pelley, Edith Avialotis, Beulah Bennett, Mary Welling, Eleanor Kandra, and Hazel Terrill; brothers, Elmer Frey and John Frey; grandson, Steven McGill.
Surviving are sons, Joseph (Judy) Frey, Jr. and Harry (Brenda) Frey; daughters, Pattianne (Donald) Parsons and Karen (Brad) Hess, all of Moundsville, WV; one granddaughter, Michelle (Charles) Parker of Fairplain, WV; grandsons, John Frey of McMechen, WV, Matthew Frey of Wooster, Oh and Richard McGill of Fort Meyers, Fl; great- grandsons, Charles Parker, Austin Parker, and John Frey, Jr.; and great-granddaughters, Kiersten Frey and Patricia Frey.
Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the Altmeyer Funeral Home, Lutes & Kirby-Vance Chapel, 118 Grant Ave., Moundsville, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 26, 2013, with Rev. J. Thomas Steele officiating.
Interment in Mt. Rose Cemetery. Moundsville, with the Moundsville Honor Guard and Patriot Guard Riders providing military honors.
