Verner Spohn

SPOHN, Verner Joseph, 92, of Naples, FL, passed away at Arden Court on April 18, 2013.

He was born on June 11, 1920, in Glenshaw, PA, the son of the late Charles and Minnie Spohn.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Charles, and great-grandchild, Julia Spohn.

During the Depression, at the age of 13, Vern left school to sell cars. He was a life-long Ford salesman, general manager, and owner of two dealerships, Spohn Motor Co. in Etna, PA, and Valley Ford Lincoln Mercury Sales in Wheeling, WV.

While in Glenshaw, Vern was one of the original founders of the Middle Rd. Volunteer Fire Dept., as well as a member of St. Mary’s of the Assumption Catholic Church and of the Etna Rotary. When he relocated to WV, he served as a Wheeling City Councilman, President of the Wheeling Rotary Club, on the Salvation Army Board, President of the OVRTA Board, and member of Wheeling Chamber of Commerce. Vern had served in the Army during WWII in the Pacific Theater.

Retiring to Naples, FL, in 1991, he served as President of Georgetown Royal Arms Condo Assn. for many years.

Verner is survived by Virginia, mother of his four children: Carol (Henry) Rockwood of Augusta, GA; Vern, Jr. (Debra) of Tucson, AZ; Mary Lou (John) Meyers of Pgh., PA. and Charles (Nancy) of Whg, WV, and longtime friend, Beverly Prindle. He is also survived by eight grand children and eight great- grandchildren.

Final arrangements are being handled by Hodges Funeral Home at Naples Memorial Gardens and are private.
