SMITH, David Maurice, 60, of Middlebourne departed this life Thursday, May 9, 2013, at his home.
Born on September 30, 1952 at his parent’s home on East Street in Middlebourne, he was one of six children of the late Harold E. And Marybelle Stewart Smith.
In addition to his parents, Dave was preceded in death by two brothers, Jack Stewart Smith and Daniel Earl Smith.
After graduating from Tyler County High School in 1970, Dave worked at Wetzel County Hospital for a short time before enlisting in the United States Air Force 1971-1975.
Upon returning home from the Air Force he returned to Wetzel County Hospital and worked and attended West Virginia Northern Community College at night and received an associate degree in Criminal Justice.
In 1980 he was hired by the Town of Middlebourne as Chief of Police until being appointed Town Treasurer in 1985 and remained there until his death.
Dave loved hunting and being outdoors. He also loved his involvement in the American Legion of which he was past Commander and Adjutant of the Tyler County American Legion Post 48 in Middlebourne.
Dave’s greatest pride was learning Sign Language and was very happy that he was so well accepted by the Deaf community and had many good friends and lots of good times with them.
Survivors include his loving wife, Evelyn (Evie) Glover Smith, Middlebourne; daughter, Christina Linamen (Jeremy), Mantua, OH; stepson, Eric Marshall (Tina), Martinsburg, WV; a stepdaughter, Melanie Crites, Rig, WV; three grandkids; Michael, Matthew and Emily Linamen; three step-grandkids; Cheyenne, Austin and Bailie Marshall; one sister,. Jane Ann Flor (Larry), Middlebourne; two brothers; Charles (Pork) Smith (Sarah), Middlebourne and Steve Smith, Sistersville.
At his request, he will be cremated. The family will hold a memorial service at a date and time to be announced.
