STAVICH, Joan Elizabeth, passed away in Cape Coral, Fla. on May 11, 2013, after long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease.
She was 82 years old, born on July 20, 1930 in Wheeling, WV, the daughter of Edwin and Hazel Murphy.
She was united in marriage to Samuel Semo Stavich on June 30, 1951 in Wheeling. They were married 55 years until his passing in May 2006.
Joan was raised in Wheeling and spent most of her life there, graduating from Wheeling HS in 1948. She was a long-time, active member of St Joan of Arc Catholic Church, in Wheeling. Joan and her husband moved to Cape Coral in 1990 where she was a member of St Andrews Catholic Church.
A consummate mother, Joan also worked as a full-time employee at Wheeling Machine/Joy Manufacturing for 25 years in the Accounting Department, while raising 5 sons. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed preparing meals for family and friends. She also loved reading; never without a book. Joan enjoyed traveling, spending summer vacations with family and friends at West Virginia’s many State Parks. She also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.
Joan is survived by her three sons, Paul, Peter, and Andrew Stavich, daughter- in-law, Rhonda Stavich, four grandchildren, Steve, Abigail, Adam, and Curtis, two sisters, Pat McGinley, and Sandra Martin.
In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by sons, Samuel Jr, and Michael Stavich, and brother, Edwin Murphy.
Memorial Services will be held on Thursday, May 16, 2013, at St Andrews Catholic Church in Cape Coral. Burial Service will be held on Friday, May 17, 2013, at Sarasota National Cemetery, where Joan will be laid to rest next to her husband, Semo.
