CRKVENAC, Katie Shumar, 90, formerly of Tiltonsville passed from this life at Cumberland Pointe Care Center, St. Clairsville, OH on Friday, May 17, 2013 surrounded by her loving family.
Katie loved her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren with a true, constant and faithful heart that filled them up and will follow them for all of their lives.
Born in Thompson #1, PA on May 20, 1922, Katie was the daughter of Jacob and Catherine Shumar. She married John Crkvenac Jr. on September 14, 1940 at Holy Rosary Church in Republic, PA. Katie, the youngest child of Jacob and Catherine, was the sister of Ivan and William Shumar, Mary Depcrymski, Eva Breberich, Barbara Burak, all of the Republic, PA vicinity, and Ann Seach of Houston, TX, formerly of Yorkville, Ohio.
Katie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her brothers and sisters.
Katie and John were the parents of five children; two daughters; Helen Dixon married to Jim, Cathy Skibo married to Ron, and three sons; Tom Crkvenac married to June, John Crkvenac married to Earlene, and Mike Crkvenac married to Jennie. Their family included 17 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. Katie also shared her loving heart with her nieces and nephews.
A faithful member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Tiltonsville, Katie was a member of both the Adult and Funeral choirs, was a Eucharistic minister, a member of the St. Francis Society, Catholic Daughters of America and Catholic Women’s Club. Her civic affiliations included the VFW Auxillary and Jefferson County Democratic Club. She was also a member of the Croation Fraternal Union.
Friends and loved ones will be received at Borkoski Funeral Home in Tiltonsville on Tuesday, May 21 2013 from 2-8 p.m. During that time, a wake service, with Msgr. Gene W. Mullett will begin at 2:30 and a prayer service with Sr. Luke Boiarski, scn, will be held at 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, May 22, 2013 at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Tiltonsville with Msgr. George R. Coyne as celebrant. As Katie requested, she will be carried to her final resting place by her grandsons. Interment will be at Holy Rosary Cemetery, Republic, PA.
