Robert Shelek

SHELEK, Robert L., 65, of Wheeling, W.Va., died Monday, April 29, 2013 at home.

He was born March 10, 1948, in Wheeling, a son to the late Charles and Charlotte (Burkhard) Shelek.

He worked for the Blaw-Knox Foundry in Wheeling and Wheeling- Pittsburgh Steel. He was a member of the U.S. Steel Workers of America, the IOLA Club, and the Phi Theta Kappa International Scholastic Order. He was a veteran in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. His two favorite things were the Pittsburgh Steelers and fishing.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Charles Shelek Jr., Donald Shelek, and David Shelek, one sister, Bonnie Cheslick, and his best friend, David “Cookie” Koch.

He is survived by his loving wife and high school sweetheart, Sandra (Bellia) Shelek, whom he married in 1970; two sons, Robert (Rebecca) Shelek of Xenia, Ohio, and Donald (Christy) Shelek of Wheeling; two brothers, Ronnie (Diane) Shelek, and Jim (Anne) Shelek; two sisters, Connie (Bob) Stahl, and Polly (Bob) Stenger; four grandchildren, Caitlyn Shelek, Braeden Shelek, Slater Shelek, and Emma Shelek; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received on Thursday, May 2, 2013, from 6-8 p.m. at the Altmeyer Funeral Home, Elm Grove Chapel, 154 Kruger Street, Wheeling.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, May 3, 2013 at 10 a.m. at St. Michael Catholic Church, Wheeling.

Interment will follow at Parkview Memorial Gardens, Wheeling.
