John Hawkins

HAWKINS, John C., 69, of New Martinsville, WV, died Monday, June 10, 2013 at his home surrounded by his family.

John was born August 1, 1943 in New Martinsville, WV, son of the late Forrest John and Bernice Caroline Anderson Hawkins.

He was a retired employee of Ormet Corp., a graduate of Magnolia High School’s Class of 1961, and a U.S. Army veteran who enjoyed spending time with his family. As a grandfather he had many grand adventures hunting and fishing with the “boys” who were his greatest joy. He also was a member of the Moose Lodge 931, New Martinsville American Legion Post 28, an avid horseshoe pitcher and supporter of Magnolia sports, and a Christian by faith.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Patty Booher Hawkins; a son, John Ray (Patty E.) Hawkins of Columbus, OH; two daughters, Jody K (Vernie) Rine of Proctor, WV, and Kathy Jo (Jamie) Clegg of Durham, NC; a brother, Gregg (Carol) Hawkins of New Martinsville, WV; a sister, Barb (Lee) Fitzsimmons of New Martinsville, WV; nine grandchildren: Justin, Josh, John Colin, Tommy, Nicky, Ashley (Alex), Katie (Jay), Brandon and Hilliary; great-grandchildren Braeden and Camden; special family member Kathy (Greg) Taylor; godchildren Carrie, Amy, Tracy and Chuckie Taylor; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends received 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, June 12, 2013 at the Jarvis-Williams Funeral Homes, 1224 S. Bridge St., New Martinsville, WV, where a service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, June 13, 2013 with Pastor Bruce Taylor officiating.

Interment to be held at the convenience of the family.
