Visitation 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today at Grisell Funeral Home, Sardis. Services will at 11 a.m. Saturday.

BOWEN, Denver D., age 81, of Sardis, Ohio, died Monday, July 1, 2013 at the New Martinsville Center, New Martinsville, WV.

He was born February 4, 1932 in Fly, Ohio, the son of the late Bernard Denver and Sarah Isabelle Smittle Bowen.

Denver was a retired insulator at Bayer; a member of VFW Post 9930, Duffy, Ohio; American Legion Post 28, New Martinsville; and a member of Narrows Run Church of Christ in Sardis. He served three years in the U.S. Navy and four years in the U.S. Marines and was a veteran of the Korean War.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Judith Thomas; a brother, John Bowen; and a grandson, Derek Roberton.

Survivors include his wife of 29 years, Sharon Wilkinson Bowen; two daughters, Melaeh (Randy) Turner of Clarington, Ohio, and Meskel (Frank) McGarry of Sardis; a son, Mark Bowen of Sardis; two sisters, Phyllis Johnson and Karen (Wayne) Rouse, both of Sardis; three grandchildren; nine great- grandchildren; in-laws, Deloris and Robert Goddard; a sister and brother-in-law, Karen and Charlie LeMasters, all of New Martinsville; two brothers-in-law, Bill Wilkinson, of New Martinsville and Shane (Holly) Wilkinson of Jackson, TN; a father-in-law, William Wilkinson of Beallsville, OH; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Family will receive friends on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Grisell Funeral Home, 37234 Mound St., Sardis, where funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. with Evangelist David Lively officiating.

Interment to follow in Sardis Cemetery, Sardis, with Post 760 Honor Guard conducting military services.
