Elizabeth Miner

MINER, Elizabeth Delaplaine Waterhouse Stifel, 99, of Wheeling passed away on Friday, July 26, 2013, in Liza’s Place, Wheeling, W.Va.

She was born February 6, 1914, in Wheeling, West Virginia, daughter of the late Frank and Mary Delaplaine Grubb Waterhouse.

Mrs. Miner was a graduate of Mt. De Chantal Visitation Academy.

She was a member of St. Matthews Episcopal Church, Wheeling, WV having served on the Altar Guild for many years along with various other committees. St. Matthews was more than a church of worship for Elizabeth and her family who had a long love and history with the church. She gave very generously to the church through her tithing and participation.

Through her memberships and affiliations, she was a past member of the Valley Garden Club of Wheeling, the Garden Club of Wheeling, the Ohio Valley Medical Center Acorn Twig, the Junior League of Wheeling, Inc., and past member of the Oglebay Institute where she was very active with the Mansion Committee.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Edward William Stifel Jr. in 1988, and her second husband, Admiral John O. Miner in 1999, and four brothers, Louis, Frank, Jacob “Jake” and John “Jack” Waterhouse.

Surviving are her son, Edward William Stifel III of Wheeling, WV; her daughter, Anne Elizabeth Stifel Honer and her husband, A. Michael of Asheboro, NC; two grandchildren, Karen Elizabeth Honer Garbee of Colorado Springs, CO, and Arthur Michael Honer Jr. of Bradenton, FL; and five great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received on Tuesday, July 30, 2013 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Kepner Funeral Home, 900 National Road, Wheeling, WV. Services will be held on Wednesday, July 31, 2013 at 10 a.m. at St. Matthews Episcopal Church, 1410 Chapline St., Wheeling, WV, with the Reverend Mark E. Seitz officiating. Entombment in Greenwood Cemetery Mausoleum.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Stifel Fine Arts Center, 1330 National Road, Wheeling, WV 26003, St. Matthews Episcopal Church, or Liza’s Place, 308 Mt. St. Joseph Road, Wheeling, WV 26003.
