TOLAND, John J., 82, of Martins Ferry, Ohio, died Tuesday, July 16, 2013, at Liza’s Place.
He was born March 3, 1931, in Wheeling, W.Va., a son of the late Frank and Esther Mary (Burrows) Toland.
He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 4811 of Yorkville, Ohio, a member of the VFW Post 3613 in Martins Ferry, a former member of the American Legion Post 38 in Martins Ferry, a former member of the American Legion Post 1 in Wheeling, and a former member of the Eagles Aerie 456 in Martins Ferry. He was a U.S. Army veteran who served in the Korean War.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, John W. Toland; two brothers, Thomas Lee Toland, and Charles James Toland; four sisters, Esther King, and three infant sisters.
He is survived by his wife, Carol (Post) Toland of Martins Ferry; three daughters, Cathy L. Taylor of Wheeling, Dianna M. Callahan of Tampa, Fla., and Donna E. (Steven) Graves of Ky.; two brothers, William (Norma Jean) Toland of Wheeling, and Ronald (Candy) Toland; several grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received on Friday, July 19, 2013, from 10 a.m. until time of funeral service at 1 p.m. at the Altmeyer Funeral Home, 1400 Eoff Street, with Msgr. Kevin Quirk officiating. Interment will follow at Holly Memorial Gardens in Colerain, Ohio.
