SHANE, Margaret June, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great- grandmother, was born in Martins Ferry, Ohio on June 1, 1922, and died on December 21, 2012, at Manatee Memorial Hospital, Bradenton, FL.
Maggie was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years and love of her life, Jack. She was also predeceased by her parents, Mary and Bill Evans of Martins Ferry; three sisters: Betty Jane Gee and Janet Jean Abraham of Wheeling and Mary Virginia “Ginny” Hughes of Bonita Springs, Florida; and brother, William “Billy” Evans of Yorkville.
Marg is survived by one sister, Ruth Mae Troy of Granville, Ohio; two children, Sue Wheeler (Larry) of Woodbridge, VA, and Mike Shane (Jeannie) of Weirton, WV; three grand children: Brandon Shane of Martins Ferry and Jeff and Steve Wheeler of Woodbridge, VA; and her four great-grandchildren: Taylor and Joel Shane and Gabriela and Mateo Wheeler; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
“Maggie,” whose maiden name was Margaret June Evans, sang with her sisters on a nationally broadcast radio show during World War II called “It’s Wheeling Steel,” broadcast from the Capitol Music Hall in Wheeling, West Virginia over WWVA radio. After Jack retired, Maggie and Jack traveled around the country in their travel trailer before finally settling down in Bradenton, Florida.
A memorial service will be held on July 13, 2013, at 11:30 a.m. at St Paul’s Episcopal Church in Martins Ferry.
