KIBBY, Eileen Pearl, 89, died Wednesday, August 28, 2013 in Romney, WV, of natural causes at Hampshire Health Center.
She was born on June 21, 1924, in Wheeling. She was the daughter of Thryza and George Leithe and the daughter-in-law of Hazel and Charles Arthur Kibby.
She graduated from Wheeling High School in 1942. She married Charles Robert (Bob) Kibby of Wheeling in 1945 when he returned from WW II in Japan on special Navy leave during repairs to his ship. They were happily married from then until his death in 1971.
Eileen worked in Wheeling at Hazel Atlas Glass Company and King’s Jewelry prior to Bob’s death. After his death she worked as a tax deputy for the Ohio County Sheriff’s Office until her retirement in 1988.
At the time of her death she was the oldest living continuous member of the Wheeling Disciples of Christ Church. Her faith was important for her throughout her lifetime. At various times she served her church as a Deacon, prayer chain coordinator, and choir member.
Her interests and hobbies included cooking, crafts, knitting, and reading her Bible. Throughout her lifetime she was usually enjoying one or another of these pastimes. Her family was very important to her and she always made decisions according to how her actions could aid and care for her loved ones.
She enjoyed sightseeing and taking driving trips around the Tri-State Area. She particularly enjoyed her many trips to visit her brother, Roy Leithe, at his home in California. Roy died in 1984.
A stroke in 2007 limited her activities in her later life, but she worked hard to recover and was able to return home to live for almost two years before she was stricken by stroke again and was forced to leave her beloved home. In 2009 she moved to Hampshire Care Center Nursing Home in Romney, WV to live near her son and his wife. Eileen was a definite favorite of the nursing home staff and she came to know and love all of them as part of her extended family.
She is survived by her son, Bruce Kibby, and his wife, Candace, of Capon Bridge, WV. She was preceded in death by her husband and another son, Brent Robert Kibby, who died at birth.
Friends will be received Friday, August 30, 2013 from 11 a.m. until time of service at 1 p.m. at Kepner Funeral Home, 166 Kruger St., Elm Grove, Wheeling (304-242-2311). She will be interred in the Kibby family plot in Greenwood Cemetery.
