Gloria Morris

MORRIS, Gloria Vincenza Panico, the first of three children born to Argentina Supini and Giuseppe Panico, was born September 5, 1921, and was a 70-year resident of Wheeling, W.V. before living her remaining years in Centerville and Kettering, Ohio.

Throughout her life, Gloria enjoyed a wide range of activities – greatest of which was being included in her beloved daughter’s family life in Centerville, Ohio.

She was a lifelong musician and taught vocal music in Ohio County Schools for 24 years.

Among her many accomplishments were: Graduate of West Liberty University, advanced voice studies at the New England Conservatory of Music, and piano accompanist at vocal competitions and recitals. Her stage career included appearances at the United Nations, Boston mini concerts, Towngate Theatre in Wheeling, soloist with symphony choruses, and performances with many other musical and theatre companies.

Gloria was voted “Citizen of the Month” for taking her Wheeling Park High School students to Rome, Italy and winning second place in an international vocal competition. In the Dayton area, Gloria volunteered for the Dayton Art Institute, the Dayton Philharmonic, and the Victoria and Loft Theatres. She was an ardent tennis fan, member of several musical societies, poetry associations, book clubs, and a lifetime supporter of opera. Gloria was a musician, writer, poet, avid reader, and artist throughout her life. She especially loved her cherished friends at her Great Decisions group at Hithergreen.

Gloria was thoughtful, kind, beautiful, vivacious, fun-loving, energetic, interesting, creative, artistic, engaging, and vital to her family and friends. Gloria never met a stranger.

She leaves her wonderful daughter, and son-in-law, Gloria (“Gogi”) and Robert (“Bob”) Gaylor; her adored grand-children, Angela (David) and Ben; her cherished brother, and sister-in-law, Joseph and Marion (“Mitzi”) Panico of Powell, Ohio; many beloved nieces and nephews; cousins in Bologna and Monteparano, Italy; and many Wheeling, Kettering, and Centerville friends.

The family would like to thank Dr. Lou Heckman, Dr. Cal Busch, and Dr. Woody Kiefaber for their excellent medical care; special gratitude to the entire wonderful staff at Lincoln Park Manor for providing Gloria with an amazingly attentive two years of personal care.

Gloria goes to join her life’s partner, James William Morris; her parents; and her sister, Alba Panico White, in an after-life adventure. TGOG
