HARRIS, George Richard, 76, of Wellsburg, WV, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 24, 2013, at Liza’s Place in Wheeling, WV.
He was born on October 14, 1936 in Short Creek, WV, a son of the late Wilber Blaney Harris and Frances Bennett Harris Irvin.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Zavislak Harris; his second wife, Betty Ruth Harris; a son, Richard and daughter Cheonda Harris; an infant sister; and a sister, Nola Hays.
George graduated from Warwood High School. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Cuban Campaign. He retired from Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Corporation after 43 years of service at the Follansbee Coke Plant. George was a member of the Short Creek Methodist Church.
He is survived by a son, Larry W. Harris, and a daughter, Heather Harris Thompson both of Wheeling, WV, four grandchildren, Emily Parsons of Ohio, Sonja Harris, Brittany and Zackary Lanum at home with George; a sister-in-law, Lois “Katie” (Burt) Hunt, Wellsburg, WV; a special friend, Connie Maynard and companion Joe Dight of Wellsburg, WV.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 29th from noon until time of services at 2 p.m. at the Mullenbach Funeral Home, 669 Main St., Follansbee, WV, with Rev. Rev. Bart R. Thompson, officiating.
Interment will be held privately in Kadesh Chapel Cemetery in Beech Bottom, WV.
