SIMMONS, Howard L. Jr., 81, of Cameron, WV, died Wednesday Sept. 4, 2013, at home.

Visitation 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Saturday Sept. 7, 2013, at Anderson Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 39 Maple Ave., Cameron, where final arrangements are incomplete.

SIMMONS, Howard L. Jr., 81, of Cameron, WV, went home to be with the Lord, passing away peacefully in his sleep on September 4, 2013.

He was born July 23, 1932, in Cameron, son of the late Howard “Briss” and Grace Chambers Simmons.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran, retired as a Master Chief Petty Officer, Hospital Corpsman, serving 27 years.

He was a member of American Legion Post 18 Cameron, Cameron Masonic Lodge #17 A.F.&A.M., 32-degree Scottish Rite Cathedral and Osiris Shrine Legion of Honor, both of Wheeling.

He was preceded in death by his only brother, Paul W. Simmons and his eldest child Cheryl (Bill) Reed of Portsmouth, VA, who passed August 19, 2013.

Surviving are two children, Charles (Pam) Simmons of Chesapeake, VA, and Charlene Simmons of Virginia Beach, VA; two step-children John (Patty) Rickard of Chesapeake, VA, and Deborah Johnson of Hatsboro, Pa; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Zula Mae (Dutch) Simmons of Columbus, Ohio; and two nephews. He also leaves behind his good friend and companion and love of more than 30 years Mary McGlumphy, of Aleppo, PA, and her children, Liz Stahl, who lovingly looked to him as a father, and Preston “Butch” Corey.

Friends will be received Saturday, September 7, 2013, at Anderson Funeral Home & Cremation Service 39 Maple Ave., Cameron, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., where services will be held Sunday at 1 p.m. with Pastor Paul K. Smith officiating.

Burial Highland Cemetery, Cameron. American Legion Post #18 and Cameron Lodge #17 A.F. & A.M. will conduct graveside honors.
