Maureen Shalowitz

SHALOWITZ, Maureen Anne Marron, 62, of Wheeling, WV, passed away Sunday, September 15, 2013, surrounded by family and friends in Reynolds Memorial Hospital, Glen Dale, WV.

She was born October 29, 1950, in Fort Meade, MD. She grew up in Dundalk, MD, with her large Irish family of parents and six brothers and sisters.

She was a Registered Nurse, graduating from Maryland General Hospital School of Nursing in 1971. She later went on to graduate from the University of Akron with a Bachelors of Nursing Degree. She was a nurse in the truest sense of the word, caring for her patients as though they were her own family. She was often assigned the most difficult patients due to her compassionate nature and proficiency.

Outside of work, she was a genuine nurse as well- giving of herself whenever and wherever she was needed. She had a love of children and babies, always wanting to hold and care for any child she met. She spent many years living with her family in Akron, OH, where she was involved in several charity organizations, to include: WITAN, the Organization for Rehabilitation and Training, and the Adopt America Network, among others.

She lit up a room with her smile and inspired all who met her with her determination and strength. She had a great sense of humor and had many life-long friends across the country and world. She was married to her husband and best friend, Bob, for 38 years and together they enjoyed many years of travelling throughout the world and spending time with friends and family, and especially loved visiting with their children and grandchildren.
