Alice Shipley

SHIPLEY, Alice Marie Allen, 93, of Wheeling, WV, passed away on Friday, October 18, 2013, in the Good Shepherd Nursing Home.

She was born on February 2, 1920, in Ironton, OH, the daughter of the late John F. and Lottie Walter Allen.

She was a 1938 graduate of St. Joseph’s Academy in Wheeling, WV, and when in her sixities, attended WV Northern Community College where she studied accounting.

Mrs. Shipley retired in 1978, after 25 years of service at Lou W. Nau Plumbing and Heating. Prior to that, she worked for several Wheeling physicians and the Ohio Valley Medical Center. She was one of the original founders of Chug, a Commodore Computer Home Users Group that was established in January 1984. She hosted several meetings in her home before the group expanded and moved to the Stone Church Community Center.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, local businessman, Jessie J. Shipley, who passed away April 2000, a son, Lawrence Shipley, her sister, Mildred Rine, and brother, John F. Allen.

She is survived by two daughters; Alice Hembra and Mildred Weis, and her husband, Dave Weis, all of Wheeling, five grandchildren, Louis M. Bator and his wife, Kimberly, of Wheeling, Richard J. Bator, of Stockton, CA, Randy J. Bator, of Hanover, MD, Dr. John D. Andenoro and his wife, Lynn, of Kalispell, Montana, and James Daniel Andenoro, of Wheeling. In addition, she leaves behind nine great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received on Thursday, October 24, 2013, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., at Kepner Funeral Home, 900 National Road, Wheeling, WV, where services will be held on Friday, October 25, 2013, at 10 a.m. with Father John Beckley, S.M., officiating.

Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Wheeling.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Good Shepherd Nursing Home, 159 Edgington Lane, Wheeling, WV 26003, in memory of Alice M. Shipley, where she was lovingly cared for since January of 2003.
