KERNIK, Leona Grace, 93, of Powhatan Point, OH, passed away Wednesday, October 2, 2013, at Belmont Community Hospital Bellaire, OH.
Leona was born March 23, 1920, in Monessen, Pa., a daughter of the late Hugh D. and Emma Grace Lynn Brubaker.
She was a Methodist by faith, past president of the Powhatan Senior Citizens Center and a lifetime member of the Powhatan VFW Ladies Auxiliary.
Preceding her in death was her first husband, Glenn Cook, on July 5, 1944; her second husband, Joseph R. Kernik, on July 18, 1991.
Surviving are her beloved children, Glenna Vichich of Port Orange, FL, Zelda Keitz of Powhatan Pt, OH, Daniel (Dixie) Cook of Circleville, OH, Dennis Kernik of Powhatan PT, OH, Kim (Bill) Nelms of Parrish, FL; a brother, Claudis “Skip” (Lila) Brubaker of Powhatan PT, OH; 12 grandchildren, Jodie (Donnie) Leone of Port Orange, FL, Tom (Rhonda) Vichich of Newark, DE, John Vichich of Columbus, OH, Stacey (Joe) Elizondo of Charlotte, NC, Jack (Tomma) Smith of Martins Ferry, OH, Daniel (Ranay) Smith of Maynard, OH, Rob Kernik of Barnesville, OH, Travis Kernik of Akron, OH, Gwen (Bill) Moore of Circleville, OH, Glen Daniel (Donna) Cook of Ashville, OH, Jeremy (Linda) Nelms of Wheeling, WV and Shai Lee (Mike) Hamlin of Parrish, FL; 12 grandchildren.
Family and friends will be received Sunday, October 6, 2013, at the Bauknecht-Altmeyer Funeral Homes and Crematory, 186 Main Street, Powhatan, Pt., OH, from noon until time of funeral service at 7 p.m. with Mrs. Lorna Knight officiating.
Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Powhatan Cemetery, Powhatan Pt., OH.
