Richard Vance

VANCE, Richard James “Jimmy,” of Stone Church Road, Ohio County WV, in his 62nd year, passed away October 3rd at the HJ Heinz Campus of the Veterans Administration Hospital, Pittsburgh.

Born August 26,1951, he was preceded in death by his parents, Richard Moore Vance and Theresa Prochaska Williams, and a brother, Johnny Moore Vance.

Surviving are brothers, Bobby S. Vance of St Petersburgh, FL, William R. Vance, of Wheeling, his sister, Mrs Sharon Vance (James) Huonker of Bellaire, OH and Michael Vance, his nephew, of Syracuse, NY.

Jimmy was a retired clerk for the U.S. Postal Service, Wheeling, and a former employee of Miracles Happen.

He served two tours of duty in Vietnam with the 162nd Assault Helicopter Company, U.S. Army, in CanTo, IV Corps, May 1970 to Dec. 1971.

Jimmy received the Air Medal, as a door gunner flying over 25 missions in hostile territory, two Army Commendation Medals, and the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry.

He was honorably discharged as a Specialist 5th Class upon his return home.

Final resting place and memorial service will be at the National Veterans Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Bridgeville, Pa. at the convenience of the family, at a later time to be determined.
