CARTER, Steven, 31, of Wheeling passed away peacefully on October 5 at home, surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.
He was born April 26, 1982, the son of Richard and Kim (Coleman) Carter.
Steve was a 2001 graduate of Wheeling Central Catholic High School and attended Wheeling Jesuit University, where he provided music for the summer Masses for 10 years. Steve was active with the BMAC organization and served as a goodwill ambassador for the MDA.
A lifelong sports fanatic, Steve was a true Mountaineer through and through.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by a brother, Chad (Jennifer) Carter; his maternal grandmother, Margaret Coleman; paternal grandparents, Ted and Jeanne Carter; his nephews, Joey and Alex Carter; his loving pets, Carter and Kitty; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends
Friends will be received at Altmeyer Funeral Home, 154 Kruger St., Wheeling, on Tuesday, October 8, 2013, from noon to 8p.m.
The Rosary will be prayed at 8 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 9, 2013 at St. Michael Catholic Church, Wheeling, with Rev. Jeremiah McSweeney as the principal celebrant and various concelebrants.
Interment will be in Stone Church Cemetery, Wheeling.
