JORDAN, John Melvin, 89, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 8, 2013, in his home in New Martinsville surrounded by loving members of his family.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Hazel Louise Smith Jordan, and three children, Martha and her husband, Rik Snyder, Jane and her husband, Ken Snider and Craig Jordan and his wife, Elaine Koziar-Jordan.
John was born and raised in the foothills of Tennessee’s Smoky Mountains and served in the 8th Army Air Force in England during the Second World War. After graduating from Maryville College, he was employed by Alcoa before moving to West Virginia in 1958 as one of the first employees of Ormet Corporation in Hannibal, Ohio.
He retired from there in 1986 and thoroughly enjoyed his retirement years, cultivating an award winning rose garden and spending quality time with his family, including grandchildren, Jennifer and Sarah Snyder, Angela and her husband, Russ Manley, Stephanie and her husband, Nick Brown, and Erica Jordan and great grandchildren, Madeline Parnall and Nicholas and Alexander Brown.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Allan Jordan; and a sister, Fay Mincy.
John was an active member of the First Baptist Church in New Martinsville where he served as a Deacon for many years. He was a member of New Providence Lodge No. 128 of the Free and Accepted Masons in Maryville, Tennessee.
Family will receive friends on Tuesday from 12 p.m. until time of funeral service at 1 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, 841 4th Street, New Martinsville, with Rev. Don Biram officiating.
Interment to follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park, New Martinsville, where military graveside services will be conducted.
