PICKETT, Kenneth E. “Gene,” 85, of Ash Ave., Moundsville, died Wednesday, November 27, 2013, in Peterson Rehabilitation Hospital.
He was a retired plant chemist with quality control from Triangle Conduit; U.S. Navy veteran, serving during WWII; a member of VFW Post 437; Moundsville Country Club; an avid golfer; long-time sports enthusiast; and in early 1950’s was a top baseball pitcher in the area, having been invited to try out with the Pittsburgh Pirates but declined to be with his family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Phyllis Jean Crow Pickett; a brother, William Earl Pickett; and a sister, Patricia Tribett.
Survivors include his wife of 24 years, Emma Lou Ponsetti Pickett; two sons, Gary (Valerie) Pickett of Bethlehem, Mark Kenneth (fiancee, Dixie Lee Newell) Pickett of Moundsville; two grandsons, Adam (Jennifer) Pickett of Wheeling, Corey (Jakki) Pickett of Penfield, NY; two great-grandchildren, Chloe and Gavin Pickett; a half-sister, Kathy (Scott) Sumner of Ocala, FL; several nieces and nephews.
Family will receive friends Sunday from 1-3 p.m. at Grisell Funeral Home and Crematory, 400 Jefferson Ave., Mound-sville.
Private services and interment will be held at the convenience of the family.
