Wilbert Whipkey

WHIPKEY, Wilbert Donald “Don,” 91, of Cameron, WV, passed away November 9, 2013, in Liza’s Place, Wheeling.

Don was born March 5, 1922, in Cameron, the son of the late Herbert and Gladys Riggle Whipkey.

Don was a WWII veteran and former POW, participating in the Normandy Invasion. He was wounded and taken captive in France, then interned near Munich, Germany, until being liberated.

Don and wife Betty raised a daughter and two sons on his beloved “Wolf Run.” He was always willing to help friends and neighbors.

He was retired from Triangle Conduit; a member of the American Legion, Cameron Post 18; and Moundsville VFW Post 437.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Arnold and Andrew Whipkey; and an infant sister, Charlotte.

Survivors include two sons, Nelson (Bonnie) Whipkey, Donnie (Kathy) Whipkey; a daughter, Janice (Bob) Hicks; two brothers, Robert (Joanne) Whipkey, Ronald (Martha) Whipkey; a sister, Janet Lee (William) Foster; eight grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Private services and interment will be held at Wolf Run Baptist Church Cemetery, Cameron.
