Nora Somerville

SOMERVILLE, Nora Mae Couch, 91, of Wheeling, WV, formerly of Power, WV, died Wednesday, December 4, 2013, in the Lancia Belmont Manor Nursing Home, St. Clairsville, OH.

She was born March 14, 1922, in Gainesville, GA, the daughter of the late George K. and Bertha Young Couch.

Mrs. Somerville was a retired registry clerk for the U.S. Postal Service and a member of the First Baptist Church of Wheeling.

She was a member of the Wheeling Hospital Auxiliary, the Peterson Stroke Club, a member of the Women of the Moose in Wellsburg, and a member of the AARP. Mrs. Somerville was a member of the National Association of the Federal Retired Employees, a member of the AEP Veteran and Retired Employee Association, and a member of the Kammer-Mitchell Chapter.

She was also a member of the Red Hats Society of Windsor Heights, a member of the Home Maker Club of Windsor Heights and of Power, WV. She was a great card player and on a bowling league in Power, WV.

She traveled on many cruises with her daughter, including Alaska and Canada. She also travelled overseas to Russia and Berlin. Mrs. Somerville travelled with her husband and cousins. She was a very caring person who helped others.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, of 47 years, Wilbert C. Somerville; sisters, Norma Lee Couch “Infant,” and Louise; five brothers, Robert, Thomas, Donald, George, and Earl Couch.

Surviving are a daughter, Charlotte M. Pollock and her husband, Frank of Windsor Heights, WV; sons, Gary W. Somerville and his wife, Sherry of Roanoke, IN, Rodney L. Somerville and his wife, Carol of Coos Bay, OR; brother, James Couch and his wife, Valene of Twin Falls, IA; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Belmont Manor and Valley Hospice and a very special thank you to Jennifer at Belmont Manor and to Jody at Valley Hospice. The family would also like to give a special thank you to Steve and Lori McGlumphy (Couch).

Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Friday, December 6, 2013 at the Kepner Funeral Home, Burke Chapel, 2101 Warwood Ave, Wheeling (304-277-2722) where service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, December 7, 2013, with the Reverend Darrin Wright officiating. After services, interment to follow at Greenwood Cemetery, Wheeling.
