CRAIG, Katherine Elizabeth “Betty” McCavitt, formerly of McMechen, WV, died in Boynton Beach, FL on December 26, 2013 at the age of 94.
Betty was born in Defiance, PA on August 9, 1919 and was raised in Saxton, PA.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Donald E. Craig, her parents, Edward R. McCavitt and Maye Miller Hamer McCavitt, her sisters, Mary Clare Roberts and Laura Asman.
She is survived by her daughters, Catherine M. Ball (James) of Wheeling, WV and Dawn C. Russell (Dr. Kurt) of Boynton Beach, FL.
She is also survived by her grandchildren, Kevin Ball (Heather), Kylie Edmister (Stephen), Jamie Ruble (Jeremy) and Faith Collins (Max) as well as two great-grandchildren, Emma Ball and Kipton Ruble.
Betty was a graduate of St. Francis School of Nursing in Charleston, WV, and completed a post graduate course in surgical nursing at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. She served two years as an Ensign in the U.S. Navy during World War II. During her career, she worked as a Registered Nurse (RN) in various hospitals and health care settings. She was an excellent nurse who provided great love and care for her patients. Betty was also a member of the DAR.
Her family takes great comfort in knowing that she is in God’s hands. She will be greatly missed and loved forever.
Private Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Cathedral of St. Joseph followed by interment at Greenwood Cemetery on January 2, 2014 in Wheeling, WV, where the Moundsville, Veteran Honor Guard will conduct military graveside service.
