LENZ, Robert Samuel, “Bob,” 65, of Wheeling, W.Va., formerly of Shadyside, Ohio, passed away Monday, January 6, 2014, in Weirton Medical Center, Weirton, W.Va.
Bob was born June 3, 1948 in Salem, Ohio, a son of the late Robert R. and Martha (Walker) Lenz. He retired from the former Stone & Thomas Department Store, Wheeling; was employed at Tire America, Wellsburg, W.Va, and was a member of the Lincoln Avenue United Methodist Church, Shadyside, Ohio.
Bob was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving during the Vietnam era; a member of the American Legion, Shadyside; and was the former Captain of the Shadyside Fire Department from 1986 to 1993.
He is survived by his two children, Jonathan R. Lenz and his wife, Cara of Kathleen, Ga. and Jessica A. Flora and her husband, Drew of Incirlik Air Force Base, Turkey; his best friend and loving companion, Toni Farkas of Wheeling; and her two daughters, Lisa Ghavam of Hunstville, Ala. and Lauren McDonald of Slippery Rock, Pa.; two brothers, David M. Lenz and his wife, Kim of Shadyside and Thomas E. Lenz and his wife, Jan of Munhall, Pa.; a nephew, Mike Lenz, and a niece, Amanda Lenz, both of Shadyside; four grandchildren, Bradley, Joshua, Sean and Grace; and four step- grandchildren, Jake, Brent, Clayton and Austin.
Friends will be received from noon-3 and 5-8 p.m., Friday, at the Altmeyer Funeral Home, 1400 Eoff Street, Wheeling, W.Va., where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 11, 2014, with the Rev. Dennis Hancock officiating.
Interment will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Wheeling, with full military honors provided by the Moundsville Veterans Honor Guard.
The Shadyside Fire Department (O.R.& W. Fire District) will conduct a service at 7 p.m. Friday evening.
