VANNEST, Samuel “Sam” 85, of Mt. Olivet, died Saturday, January 18, 2014, at Liza’s Place, Wheeling.
He was born March 29, 1928 in Glencoe, son of the late Fred and Emily Kennedy Vannest.
Sam was a retired boiler operator from LCP formerly Allied Chemical Co., a US Navy veteran, member of the West Alexander American Legion, the Claysville Masonic Lodge, Elm Grove Eagles, a former fire chief for the West Alexander Volunteer Fire Department and a volunteer for the Mt. Olivet Volunteer Fire Department and a Methodist by Faith.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife: Thelma Jeane Vannest.
Survivors include one son: Brad (Dawn) Vannest of Mt. Olivet; one daughter Robin Walters of Moundsville; two brothers: James and John Vannest both of St. Clairsville; five grand children: Samantha Walters of NC, Amanda Murphy of Moundsville, Brady Vannest of Morgantown, WV, Sean Vannest and Alex Vannest both of Wheeling; a great-granddaughter: Avery Murphy of Moundsville and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Sunday from 3-8 p.m. at the Grisell Funeral Home & Crematory, 1 Ridgecrest Rd., Wheeling/ Bethlehem where funeral services will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. with Rev. Mary Ann Nolte officiating.
Interment at the convenience of the family in West Alexander Cemetery, West Alexander, PA.
