JOHNSON, Walter Darnell “Nipsey,” 52, of Wheeling died Saturday January 11, 2014 at Wheeling Hospital.

He was born April 28, 1961 in Wheeling, a son of ZoAnn (Wilks) Johnson Fields of Bridgeport and the late Walter B. Johnson.

Walter was a member of the Wayman AME Church, Wheeling.

In addition to his mother, Walter is survived by an aunt, an uncle, and a host of cousins, family and friends.

Friends will be received at the Wilson Funeral Home, 920 National Road, Brookside, on Thursday, January 16, 2014 from 11 a.m. until time of memorial service at 1 p.m. Interment in Weeks Cemetery, Bridgeport.

Walter Johnson

JOHNSON, Walter Lee “Beeb,” 76, of Wheeling, passed away on Tuesday, January 7, 2014, at Reynolds Memorial Hospital, Glen Dale, WV.

He was born August 30, 1937 in Glen Dale, WV, son of the late Albert J. and Genevieve Gilmore Johnson.

“Beeb” was a very active member of the Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church where he served for many years as a Trustee, and was a past “United Methodist Man of the Year.” He was chair person of Marshall County District 3 Water Department and served on the board for 27 years. He was a U.S. Army Veteran.

He began his AEP career at Kammer Plant on May 5, 1966. He transferred to Mitchell Plant August 8, 1970 and retired from Mitchell Plant-AEP on March 1, 2000. He was president of the Utility Workers Union of America (UWUA) from 1986 to 1993.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Judith Terry Johnson; a brother, Edwin Johnson; and a step-son, Jimmy Gilbert who died January 3, 2014.

Surviving are his loving wife of 35 years, Martha L. Blankenship Johnson; five children, Gilbert L. “Gibby” Johnson; Vickie K. Earnest and her husband, Rich; Toni L. Shook and Eddie Bogard; Jay Johnson and his wife, Tammy all of Moundsville, WV; and James A. Johnson and Loni White of Wheeling, WV; two step-daughters, Debbie Solomon and her fiance, Larry Crouse of Tiltonsville, OH, and Melissa Gilbert of Wheeling; two sisters, Barbara Powell and her husband, Joseph of New Martinsville, WV, and Dorothy Prenat of Glen Dale; an aunt, Thelma Neff of Moundsville; 18 grandchildren; six great- grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received from 1-3 and 5-8 p.m. on Friday, January 10, 2014 at the Kepner Funeral Home, 166 Kruger Street, Elm Grove, Wheeling (304- 242-2311).

Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 11, 2014, at the Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, with the Reverend John Morrison officiating. Interment in Halcyon Hills Memorial Gardens, Sherrard, WV.
