Dorothy Knoop

KNOOP, Dorothy I., 105, of Defiance, Ohio died on Saturday, February 8th at the Defiance CHP Inpatient Hospice Center. She was born on April 20, 1908 on a farm near Arthur, Ohio (Paulding County) to John and Cora (Kleinhen) Andrews. On July 3, 1931, at 11:30 p.m. at the Manse, Dorothy was married to Orville Knoop by Rev. Rex. Dorothy and Orville dated in a horse drawn buggy, and were married until Orville’s death in 1972.

Dorothy was a homemaker and she enjoyed cooking, baking cookies, crocheting, and knitting. In her lifetime, she took care of new mothers and their babies, worked for a telephone company, and at Defiance City School’s Cafeteria. She was “lucky” in playing euchre with her family. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church for 80+ years. She served as a Sunday School teacher and was an active member through her life. She was also a 50 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Dorothy is survived by a son; Fred (Carolyn) Knoop of New Martinsville, WV, a daughter; Marilyn J. Smith of Defiance, Ohio, grandchildren; Jayne Knoop of Oxford, Ohio, Dave (Carla) Knoop of Paden City, WV, Jim (Cheryl) Knoop of Flagpond, TN, step-grandchildren; Bob (Karen) Berry of New Martinsville, WV, James (Diane) Smith of Punta Gorda, FL, Kim (Tom) Honigford of Delphos, Ohio, 3 great-grandchildren, and 4 step-great-grandchildren.

Dorothy was preceded in death by 2 sisters; Donelda Searles, Zylpha Shisler, and 4 brothers; Vern, Miland, John, & Walter Andrews, Daughter in law; Mary Dolores (Schira) Knoop, and a grandson John Fredrick Jr.

Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m., on Tuesday, February 11, 2014, at Schaffer Funeral Home, and one hour prior to the services, at church.

Services will be held at 11 a.m., on Wednesday, February 12, 2014, at the First Presbyterian Church of Defiance, Ohio with Rev. Eric Peltz officiating. A private graveside service will be held at Riverside Cemetery.

Memorials in Dorothy’s name may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, Defiance Habitat for Humanity, or the Defiance CHP Inpatient Hospice Center.
