Marjorie Schafer

SCHAFER, Marjorie Lee Mobley, 91, of Wheeling passed away peacefully surrounded by her family in Lexington Medical Center, West Columbia, SC, on Sunday, February 23, 2014.

Mickey, as she was known to her friends, was born March 3, 1922 in Bellaire, OH, to the late Letha Creamer Mobley and William Mobley of Bellaire.

She was a graduate of Triadelphia High School in Wheeling and was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.

Mickey was a member of Vance Memorial Presbyterian Church. She was an avid golfer and was for years a member of Belmont Hills Country Club and, later, Moundsville Country Club. She was an enthusiastic fan of all things WVU and attended football games and bowl games for decades.

But even with her many outside interests, the heart of her life was her family.

Mickey was predeceased by her husband and soul mate, Sam E. Schafer in 2009. They were married over 66 years. Including the time they were dating, they were together nearly 70 years.

Mickey is survived by her daughters, Nancy Harvey of Las Vegas, NV; and Jane Schafer of Las Vegas, NV; and son, John and his wife Crystal of Chapin, SC. She was blessed with four grandchildren, Bryn, Amanda, Rebecca and Samuel (Teddy) and two great-grandchildren, Tyler and McKenzie.

Friends will be received Thursday, February 27, 2014 from 6-8 p.m. at the Kepner Funeral Home, National Road 900 National Road, Wheeling (304-232-2732), and from 1 p.m. until time of services at 2 p.m. on Friday, February 28 at the funeral home, with the Reverend Dr. Larry Kline officiating. Internment will follow in Greenwood Memorial Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family encourages you to make a contribution to the charity of your choice or simply do a kind deed in Mickey’s memory for someone less fortunate than you.
