Robert Watt

WATT, Robert E., 83, of Shadyside, Ohio, died Sunday, February 23, 2014 at the Wheeling Hospital in Wheeling, West Virginia.

He was born March 30, 1930 in Shadyside, Ohio, a son of the late Ralph Robert and Leona May Tarbet Watt.

Bob was a retired employee of the Bayer Corporation, a member of the St. John Catholic Church in Bellaire, Ohio, American Legion Post 521 in Shadyside where he was a past commander and the Belmont County Council of the American Legion.

Bob also was a former employee of Standard Oil in Bellaire, Ohio and retired in 1992 from Bayer Chemical in New Martinsville, West Virginia. He was a devoted husband, loving father, endeared “Pop” and will remain a hero in our hearts.

In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Agnes Marie Greenwood Watt on December 29, 2011. Bob and Agnes were united in marriage on May 21, 1950 at the St. John Catholic Church in Bellaire, Ohio. Also three sisters, Betty Lou Hott, Vivian Giffin and Reba Saunders and one brother, Jerry Watt.

Surviving are his two sons, Steven E. (Sharon) Watt of New Richmond, Ohio and Randy J. (Victoria) Watt of New Franklin, Ohio; two brothers, Danny Joe Watt of Shadyside, Ohio and Larry Watt of Sunbury, Ohio. Also five grandchildren, Jessica Laslo, Danielle Kritz, Matthew Watt, Megan Watt and Marley Taylor, five great-grandchildren, Jillian Laslo, Erika Carter, Ethan Carter, Evan Carter and Griffin Kritz and several nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will be received at the Bauknecht-Altmeyer Funeral Homes & Crematory, 3900 Central Ave., Shadyside, Ohio, on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. and Thursday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Funeral liturgy with Mass will be celebrated on Thursday at 11 a.m. at the St. John Catholic Church in Bellaire, Ohio with Fr. Daniel Heusel officiating. Entombment in the Guardian Angel Mausoleum at the Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Bellaire, Ohio at the convenience of the family.

American Legion Post 521 and the Belmont County Council of the American Legion will conduct services on Wednesday at 7 followed by vigil services at 7:45 p.m.
