SHIA, Alfred “Freddie” J., 85, of Wheeling passed away Tuesday, March 25, 2014, at Ohio Valley Medical Center surrounded by his children, grandchildren, and sisters.

Friends will be received Sunday, March 30, 2014, for a Wake Service from 1-1:30 p.m., and friends will continue to be received from 1:30-5 p.m. at Kepner Funeral Home, 166 Kruger St., Elm Grove, Wheeling (304-242-2311). Funeral liturgy with the Mass will be celebrated on Monday, March 31, 2014, at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Lebanon Church with Monsignor Bakhos Chidiak as Celebrant. Interment to follow in Mt Calvary Cemetery.

SHIA, Alfred “Freddie” J., 85, of Wheeling, passed away Tuesday, March 25, 2014, at Ohio Valley Medical Center surrounded by his children, grandchildren, and sisters.

He was born June 27, 1928, in Benwood, WV, son of the late Constantine and Anna Petros Shia.

Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Debbie; a brother, Thomas “Tim” Shia; and two sisters, Mary and Betty Shia.

Surviving are four children, Lisa Kepner, Janet (Kenny) Gongola, Alfie Shia, Lynn Winiesdorffer; grandchildren, Ashley, Alex (Paige), and Alicia Kepner, Vince and Chatham Gongola, Sarah and Jacob Shia, and Chase and Cody Winiesdorffer; sisters, Emily Vince and Rose Vargo; many nieces and nephews; and close friend, Joe Winiesdorffer.

He was a U.S. Army veteran and a member of Our Lady of Lebanon Church. For Freddie it was all about family. He was a friend to many and had many friends in return. He enjoyed playing golf, watching his grandchildren grow up, and he was his grandson Jacob’s number one fan.
