Frederick Olson

OLSON, Frederick Martin, Jr., 90, of Benwood, WV, died Tuesday, March 18, 2014, in the Bishop Joseph H. Hodges Continuous Care Center, Wheeling.

He was born September 15, 1923, in Benwood, WV, the son of the late Frederick M. Olson, Sr. and Lillie Depriest Olson.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Christine M. Taskaline Olson January 17, 2013, three brothers and two sisters.

Mr. Olson was a retired quality control inspector for Wheeling Stamping Company and a former employee of the Wheeling Civic Center as a door guard. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Forces and a POW during WW II. His memberships included Nelson Lodge No. 30 A.F. & A.M., the El Tor Grotto, and the Ohio Valley Barbed Wire Chapter 1.

Fred is survived by his son, Frederick M. Olson III and his wife, Susan, of Broadway, VA, two grandsons, Chad Michael Olson, of Ruskin, FL, and Jeffery Martin Olson, of Plantation, FL, a great-granddaughter, Katie, and a special friend, Lori Crockard, of Wheeling. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received on Sunday, March 23, 2014, from 2-4 p.m. at Kepner Funeral Home, 3545 Jacob Street, South Wheeling, where services will be held on Monday, March 24, 2014, at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Keith Forkey officiating.

Interment in Greenwood Cemetery.

Military graveside services will be conducted by the Moundsville Honor Guard.
