James Gamble

GAMBLE, James “Ronald,” 71, of Wellsburg, WV, went peacefully to be with our Lord on February 27, 2014 at Trinity West in Steubenville, OH.

He was born February 3, 1943 in Wellsburg, WV, the son of the late James Russell and Mary Margaret Sherwood Gamble.

He graduated from Wellsburg High School in 1961. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1962-1964. Ron retired from Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel Corporation in 2005 after 41 years of service.

He was a devoted member of the Lighthouse Baptist Church, doing all he could to improve the building and the congregation. No matter how ill he was you could always find him in the pew on Sunday morning.

Ron was passionate about the Steelers, Brooke High football, anything Mountaineers and boxing. He was a tinkerer and believed he was a builder of great things. He was an amateur magician-master of only one trick.

His family was his greatest pride and joy and the drive behind his four year battle against Kidney disease. He was always a kid at heart and got a kick out planning some mischief with the younger member of his extended family. He will be remembered for his great sense of humor, the twinkle in his eye and a smile that could light up a room.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Richard; and brother-in-law, Jim Jones.

He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years and devoted caregiver, Gaynell Elizabeth Seavolt Gamble; two sons, Ron (Renee) Gamble of Columbus, OH and Lance A. Gamble of Nashville, NC; one daughter, Misty Gamble of Wellsburg, WV; four grandchildren, Beth Gamble, Lochlyn and Tucker Gamble, and Payton Mechling. He is also survived by his faithful canine companion, Elvis. Other survivors include three sisters, Priscilla Jones of Charleston, WV Patricia (Glenn) Chivers and Linda (Larry) Lemasters of Wellsburg; several nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to express their appreciation and gratitude to the staff of Davita and especially Tina Riggle for their loving care and kindness.

Visitation will be Sunday, March 2, 2014 from 5-8 p.m. at Reasner Funeral Home, 1515 Charles St., Wellsburg, WV, and Monday, March 3, 2014 from noon until the time of service at 2 p.m. with Pastor Dick Ryan officiating.

Interment will follow at Franklin Cemetery, Wellsburg, WV, with full grave side military rites by the Ohio Valley Veterans Memorial Squad.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Lighthouse Baptist Church, 338 Glenn Lane Follansbee, WV 26037.
