Kenneth Shurak Sr.

SHURAK, Kenneth John Sr., 69, passed away Thursday, March 13, 2014, at Woodlawn Nursing Center.

He was born March 24, 1944, in Shrewsbury, England, the son of Adam A. and Nancy (Kenny) Shurak.

He came to America in 1946 and entered in Ellis Island; was born and raised in the Catholic faith.

Kenneth graduated from Union High School and entered the military. He was a veteran who proudly served his country in the US Navy for a short time until he was medically/ honorably discharged. After being discharged from the service, he moved to Florida for a few years. When he returned to West Virginia he was employed by Whiteside Chevrolet Buick Cadillac, GMC in the service department and then as a salesman for many years until he became ill.

He enjoyed playing golf, football (his favorite team was the Pittsburgh Steelers; he loved driving his buddies to the games), racing, different types of music, spending many hours volunteering his time at The Jamboree in the Hills. His pride and joy were his grandchildren, and he was loved and cherished by his grandkids who called him Papa.

Kenneth is survived by his son, Kenneth Shurak, Jr. and wife, Jennifer of Skowhegan; his grandchildren, Savannah and Zach of Skowhegan; sister, Wanda Strautmann and husband Bud; brothers, Edward and wife, Mary K., and Daniel Paul, all of Wheeling, WV; 12 nieces and nephews; one great-niece; and one great-nephew. He was predeceased by his daughter, Michelle, brother, Dennis James (D) Shurak, and parents.

The family would like to thank the staff at Woodlawn Nursing and Rehab Center, where Ken lived since coming to Maine in 2008 for their wonderful care and support. Also to the staff at Redington-Fairview General Hospital, Easter Maine Medical Center, and Dr. Loraine Paradis.

A special thank you to his sister, Wanda and friend Mike, who helped care for Ken before moving to Maine as well as Bob and all his friends at Whiteside for being supportive.

At Ken’s request, there will be no visitation hours of funeral service. A graveside service will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family.
